The Man Behind The Art..

A prominent art dealer recently said: “Don Clarke is South Africa’s best kept secret when it comes to abstract art!”
Don’s love of animals, combined with his passion for Impressionism has led him into a style of abstract wildlife painting. Having only taken up the brushes again recently, his work is unlike anything seen before. Big, bold and totally alive!! His animals pop from the canvas in such a way that you can almost smell them. His work is impressionistic and painterly, to the point where every mark and brush stroke is provocatively visible.
The uniqueness of Don’s art soon caught the eye of international clients, and his paintings have found new homes far and wide, including Canada, the USA, United Kingdom, Germany and Australia.
Don, who is best known as a songwriter and record producer, was born in Johannesburg, and grew up in a very artistic family. No surprise then, that his artistic talent became apparent as a young lad. At the age of 6, he was mentored by his grandfather, Bertie Clarke, who was also a fine artist. In later life, he took lessons from Christopher Haw, learning watercolour techniques, and later developed a passion for oils.
